—THE STORY
Eight million followers, and the most honest backstage pass in fashion.
She still walks twelve shows a season. “The runway pays for the camera,” she says. “The camera keeps the runway honest.”
ofia Marchetti was fitting for Milan Fashion Week when she started posting unfiltered backstage diaries — the 5 a.m. call times, the safety-pinned gowns, the models eating pasta off paper plates between shows. The industry braced for an exposé; instead it got a love letter with the seams showing.
Eight million followers later, her “Backstage Pass” series is credited with demystifying modelling for a generation — and, quietly, with improving backstage conditions at several major houses, whose PR teams learned it was easier to fix the catering than to spin it.
In conversation with Sofia Marchetti
That it's glamorous. It's logistics. It's standing in a freezing studio in swimwear in February while someone steams a dress next to you. The glamour is maybe four percent. I film the other ninety-six.
FNM — What do people most misunderstand about modelling?
FNM — You film everything backstage. Did the industry push back?
At first, constantly. Then they noticed the comments — thousands of girls saying "so THAT'S what it's really like" and loving fashion more, not less. Honesty turned out to be the best PR they never paid for.
FNM — Where does the influencer end and the model begin?
There's no border anymore, and I stopped pretending there is. The walk gets me in the room; the camera lets me bring eight million people with me. Why would I choose?
FNM — You've been credited with improving backstage conditions. Was that activism?
It was appetite, honestly. I filmed the sad catering table because it was funny. Three houses upgraded their food the next season. Turns out sunlight is the best catering manager.
